Don was a very special and dear friend. We spent many days at Kent State talking and hanging out at night with Christine and Peggy my roommates. I'll never forget walking up to the corner store from our apartment to get donuts and pizza and eating all of it! What fun we used to have. Not a care in the world. Don had a special way about him that made you feel so welcome. He had such a kind spirit. For many years we stayed in touch after college. But somewhere along the way later in life we lost our connection but regained it over the past several years. Even if you haven't talked for awhile we picked up where we left off as if it was just yesterday. Last time that I saw Don was the weekend his daughter graduated from high school. My husband and I took him to dinner and I realized what a close friend he was, even 33 years after we had graduated college. He was like a brother to me. Thanks Don you've been a wonderful friend. Take care in Heaven sweetie. Love Robin D

I was waiting to write so I could say something important or profound. But the more I thought about Don, the more I realized time I spent with him was uncomplicated. Even though we worked through deep, difficult, real life subjects, it always seemed to end on a positive, uplifting note with a smile or a laugh. He appreciated the riches of life’s simple offerings and understood the blessings it was to himself and, more importantly, to others. He had a way of making people feel valued and significant. For me, he was easy to talk to. It was like taking a time out from life to get re-acclimated for the battles ahead. I have know Don since 1981. He has been in both of my weddings. He resided in 4 of the 7 cities in which I have lived. He made me a Browns fan. There are so many stories we experienced that, over the years, have brought me smiles and even outright laughter when I think about them. Most of which only he would probably understand: The Hey song, etiquette, walking to work at 4AM, Youth of America, A-E jam, the tux pants, Don is the egg man, any Little Rascals quote, the WOM dancing cat, the fire extinguisher story, and the other fire extinguisher story. I’m sure everybody that knew him has fun, simple Don moments that will live in their hearts forever. I will miss reliving those moments with him and creating new ones. But I believe he knew Christ and he is at peace with his Savior, perhaps helping distribute the simple blessings He provides to us. Enjoy heaven Señor.
