Evelyn D. Oakman, age 95, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Saybrook Landing. She was born on May 17, 1923 in Madera, PA. the daughter of Harry and Edith (Crane) Fitzgerald. She was a 1941 graduate of Somerset Township high School. On September 29, 1941 she married James Ray Oakman in Cumberland, MD. Mrs. Oakman was a resident of South Madison since 1947, coming from Friedens, PA.
Affectionately known as “Nan” and “Grams” to her grandchildren, Evelyn had a great love for her family. She was a wonderful homemaker that loved family gatherings, especially the annual Christmas Eve gathering at her home.
She is survived by her children, Carolyn (Dan) Robison of Thompson, James Oakman of Medina, Susan Andrews of Fairport Harbor, Robert (Toni) Oakman of Ashtabula, Joanne Powell of Jefferson, and Son-in-law, Jerry Hupertz of Geneva. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchldren.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; husband James R Oakman; daughter, Connie Hupertz; grandchildren Robert Oakman II and Dayna Oakman; great-granddaughter, Keri Hupertz-Vickery; Son-in-law Harry Powell, Brothers, Thomas, Edward, Aaron, and Eugene, sisters, Delores Page, Mary Shaffer, Bernice Pile and Alice Holtzendorf.
Friends will be received from 2-5 pm on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison. A Funeral Service will be held at 1 pm on Monday October 15, 2018 at the funeral home.
