Gayle Arlene (Durrant) Carroll, age 84, of Madison, peacefully passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Tripoint Medical Center due to COVID-19 complications. She was born July 21, 1936 in Cleveland, the daughter of Edward and Hazel (Fester) Durrant. She married Donald Carroll in Cleveland, OH on November 22, 1956 and they spent 60 loving years together before his passing in 2016.
Gayle was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church in Madison where she
helped parishioners through the Bereavement Support Program and ran the bookstore. She directed the St. Padre Pio Christian Community in her home and led the rosary at the Cardinal Woods Rehabilitation Center every Wednesday evening. Gayle worked as an antique dealer and a homemaker raising 8 children. She enjoyed camping, birdwatching, giving back to the community, playing the accordion, serving as a Girl Scouts troop leader, raising Boston terriers, attending church, and spending time with her plethora of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered as a great Catholic who lived for the Lord and as a strong-willed woman with an endless amount of energy and joy.
Gayle is survived by her beloved sister Karen (Durrant) Stamm and sister-in-law Beverly (Gunsch) Carroll; cherished cousin Linda LaFaber; 8 children: Mark Carroll, Brian (Donna) Carroll, Lynda Lee (John) Stevenson, Danette (Jaime) Kokish, Christine (Rex) Houpt, Mary Beth (Kevin) Geis, Michelle (Joseph) Ransom, Sherri Carroll; 21 grandchildren: Sherri, Kelley, John, Brian Jr., Beth, Leann, Daniel, Audra, Ken, Gary, Ben, Ryan, Hannah, Catherine, Randy, Jake, Dylan, Rachelle, Craig, Rylee and Logan; and 35 great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Tavie, Logan, Payton, Allison, Landen, Layla, Alina, Charlotte, Liam, Paige, Eleanor, Callie, Gavin, Brendan, Caleb, Claire, Raegan, Eli, Mabry, June, Maxwell, Walker, Weston, David, Andrew, Trinity, Arriona, Cameron, Hailey, Gavin, Olivia, Bradley, Gabriel, and Jensen. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, brothers-in-law Charles Carroll and William Stamm, grandsons Shawn Sapuppo and Paul Carroll, great-grandson Grayson Breedlove and her parents, Edward and Hazel Durrant.
Friends will be received 5-7 P.M., Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the Behm Family
Funeral Home, 26 River Street in Madison. Guests are required to follow current
pandemic guidelines, wear masks and practice social distancing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M., Friday, December 11, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Church, 2846 Hubbard Rd. in Madison. The service will be live streamed from the Behm Family Funeral Home’s Facebook page. Gayle’s final Resting Place is North Madison Cemetery alongside her husband Donald.
