Henry “Charlie” Quayle, the famous gardener and chef, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 12, 2021. He was born February 15, 1949, in Painesville, Ohio, to Phyllis (Peterson) and Perry Quayle, and on September 15, 1990, Charlie married his love, Susan Franczek.

Charlie was a proud Army veteran and member of the American Legion Jay Wilson Post 112 where he gave his heart, giving hope to grieving families while serving on the Post’s funeral team. Charlie was a lifelong member of Park United Methodist Church and shared his macaroni and cheese with those who attended Lenten Luncheons. It was voted the favorite meal of the luncheons. Charlie will be remembered most for his beautiful garden. He took great pride in the planting, care and harvesting. He loved sharing the bounty of his garden with family and friends. His garden was his true “happy place”. Nothing made him happier than cooking and being outside.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Susan; son, Perry (Nicole Kelly) Quayle; sister, Sarah (Larry Advey) Sample; brother, John (Gail Hopkins) Quayle; and many loved nieces, nephews, extended family and great friends. And while we truly miss Charlie, he lovingly joins his son, Benjamin; his parents, brothers, Philip, Bruce, Mark, and Dennis.

There will be a Celebration of Life, with military honors, at the American Legion Jay Wilson Post 112, Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 2 PM for family and friends. Donations can be made to the American Legion Post 112 Funeral Team.
