Ida Gibson went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Brookwood Baptist-Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster, AL. Born in Cleveland, OH on May 24, 1926 she was the daughter of Roland and Ruth (Youngman) Smith. She was a former resident of North Madison, OH but had resided in Alabama for the past 27 years. She was previously employed by Euclid Case, making shell cases during World War II, wrote a column for the Geneva Free Press, worked for Geneva Hospital in the business office, worked at Reliance Electric as a balancer, worked for the Geneva Police Department as a dispatcher after attending the Ashtabula Police Academy, worked at Fish Memorial Hospital in New Smyrna Beach, FL, and was a secondary market entrepreneur for many years. She was the mother of seven children. She enjoyed music, crocheting, reading and bird watching. She enjoyed sports, particularly football, and was a fan of Ohio State and Alabama. She also rooted for Notre Dame and the Cleveland Indians. She was preceded in death by her infant son Gary, parents Roland and Ruth, and her sister Carol Stillwagon. She is survived by six children: Sandra (Paul) Osterman of Austinburg, OH, Rebecca Quickel of Geneva, OH, Terry Gibson (Charles Hatchell) of Strafford, VT, Larry Gibson (Helen Loyd) of Ashtabula, OH, Shirley (George) Louma of Ashtabula, OH, and Darline Gibson of Maylene, AL. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. on Monday, July 30 at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street in Madison, OH.
