Jeanne Marie Rand Square, age 97, passed away peacefully at 12:06 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2016 at her home surrounded by family.
A lifelong resident of Madison, Ohio, her family was among the very earliest settlers and residents, and she was an active member of the Madison Historical Society.
From a young age Jeanne loved dancing and due to her talent, was invited to New York City to dance when she was just 20. She chose instead to marry Nick Square and raise a family.
Jeanne taught dancing at her home for 40 years to the children of Madison and surrounding communities. Once a year, she held a dance recital for her young “Stars of Tomorrow”, as she liked to call her students. Her love of dance continued throughout her life including ballroom dancing, square and circle dancing with the Shawnee Squares of Geneva. In her later years, she continued with “Silver Sneakers” at the YMCA until only a few weeks before her death.
Jeanne was responsible for naming her husband’s building development “Squares Acres”.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Nick J. Square, her second son, Timothy and her late life companion, Anton Mlack.
She is survived by her children, Nick (Cheryl) Square, Gregory Square, Peter Square, Jeffery (Sandra) Square; grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Hahner, Ann (Jim) Colaneri, Timothy Square, Jr., Amy Square, John Square, Ted (Amanda) Square, Tyler Square, Nicole Square, Megan Square; great-grandchildren, James, Monica, Andrew, Michael, Timothy III, Madelyn, Nick, Justin, William; and daughter-in-law, Sue (the late Timothy) Square.
Friends will be received 6 9 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2016 at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison, Ohio 44057. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 2, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Church, 2846 Hubbard Road, Madison, Ohio, celebrated by the Rev. Sean Donnelly. Interment will be May 1, 2017 at North Madison Cemetery.
