Pam and Glenn Matter left a message on September 30, 2016:
Glenn and I are deeply saddened to hear of John's passing. We may have only met John and LoRene a couple of years ago but we immediately considered them both members of our family. Winters will be a little less fun without our jokester, but he loved life and would want nothing more than for us to celebrate his time here on earth. He spoke of his family often and the love he had for them was obvious. Rest in peace, my friend, and know that you left an indelible mark on our hearts forever.

I always felt welcome in your home growing up in Squares Acres and a big reason was your Dad. He was larger than life - but kind to all. Chad and Annie you have been in my thoughts this week and I will continue to hold you and your family in my prayers.

John most definitely left a lasting impression! We have only known him for 2 years and yet I feel as if we've known him forever. There was always a story to entertain, a bit of experienced advise and ALWAYS a helping hand. Ask John how is he is doing and he would say "Terrible" and that meant it was a good day. I will miss asking him. I will miss seeing his smile, miss seeing him in the golf cart he drove through the camp ground with one leg hanging out, his visits, his stories and hearing his laugh but they are ingrained in my memory forever. We were all blessed to have him in our lives. What we have lost, Heaven has gained immensely! To his family, my prayers of comfort. God bless!

Dave and I both considered John our dear friend. He would stop by every day, sit in his favorite spot and talk with Dave while I was cooking. He loved my dogs, and they loved him....so much that they showered him with kisses the entire time he was there. They would even jump in his golf cart eagerly waiting for a ride. He would always call us throughout the winter to check on us. If I pulled into camp alone he would stop always stop and help me unload my car. Even groceries. John and LoRene would come for breakfast and he would tease our Macaw, Turk. He and I went for a ride on his cart just a couple hours before and our last words spoken to each other were "see you tomorrow." I will NEVER forget that. Our prayers go out to John's family and LoRene and her family. We will miss his pies, his stories, his charm, his soft voice and HIM.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. I remember how close are families were, the holidays and dinners we had together. Your Dad was always the life of the party and made everyone laugh. The epic games of pinochle played ( where our Moms would usually win) which left Diana and I inevitably playing 'horse' for hours outside(which she usually won). One things for sure, Sherry , Mary and John are cuttin a deck looking down on us! I'm praying for you all.
