John W. Burnett, Sr.,age 86, of Painesville, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 10, 2008 in Perry.
He was born March 17, 1922 in Kirtland to Hazel (Filer) & John C. Burnett and married Helen Margaret Wheeler in Napoleon, Ohio on September 7, 1942.
John worked in the lab at Diamond Alkalai for 30 years and also worked for Perry Schools.
He was a 1940 Graduate of Kirtland High School and served in the U.S. Army, 77th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Was a member of Painesville Baptist Church, Perry American Legion and Perry Historical Society. Volunteered at Lake Metroparks Penitentiary Glen which was formerly his family’s farm. He was a bold witness for his faith in Jesus Christ. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, golfing and most importantly his family.
He is survived by Daughter, Peggy (Lee) Roberts of Trumbull Twp. ; Son John (Jan) W. Burnett, Jr. of Perry;
6 Grandchildren, Keturah (Eric) Kilbourn, Elijah Roberts (fiancee? Jaime Rude), John (Toni) Burnett III, Jodie Burnett, Rev. James (Stacey) Burnett and Hannah Roberts; 5 Great-Grandchildren, Dylan, Jaden Lee, Shea Meara, Lauren & John IV; sisters: Nancy Advey of Madison and Sarah (Ben) Johnson of Willoughby, both who thought he was the greatest brother in the world.
He was preceded in death by wife of 64 years, Helen Margaret Burnett; Parents; and sisters, Lois Leggat, Joan Adams and Judy Rummell
Friends will be received 4-7:00 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2008, at The Behm Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 26 River Street, Madison, Ohio.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 16, 2008, at the Painesville Baptist Church, 140 Park Road Ext., Painesville, Ohio. Rev. Stoney Drain and Rev. James Burnett will be officiating.
Final Resting Place will be at Perry Cemetery in Perry.
