Richard “Dick” Curtis, Age 78 of Rome, Ohio passed away August 27, 2019. He was born March 13, 1941 in Beverly, Ohio to George and Marcella (Anderson) Curtis. He was a 1959 graduate of Collinwood High School and married the love of his life Denise Grabelsek on August 29, 1998 at their residence Irish Acres in Rome, Ohio.
He was owner of K & G Machine in Euclid Ohio; a business his father started and is now owned by Dick’s son Monte. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and farming, especially with his family. He particularly enjoyed introducing the sport of hunting to young people he knew. He valued giving young people the opportunity to work their first job on his farm.
He was a member of Harpersfield United Methodist Church, East Gate Masonic Lodge No. 796, Lyndhurst OH, Scottish Rite in the Valley of Cleveland, Al Koran Shriners, and the Pope & Young Club. Dick was also a long time sponsor in the Wild Turkey Federation and he was instrumental in founding the Grand River Chapter Ducks Unlimited. He also was proud of his 38 years of sobriety achieved through AA.
Dick leaves behind his wife, Denise; son, Monte (Christine) Curtis; daughter Kelli (Rodney “R.J.”) Kerwin; grandchildren, John and Lisa Kerwin, Caitlin, Jenna and Jake Curtis and sisters Darlene Carlton and Donna Urquhart. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dixie Kenyo.
Friends will be received 4-5 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2019 at The Harpersfield Community Center, 5604 Cork Cold Springs, Road, Geneva, OH 44041. A Celebration of Life Service will be held immediately following at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. at the Community Center. Pastor Shirley Frantz will officiate assisted by Pastor Scott Racut of Harpersfield United Methodist Church.
Dick has suggested in Lieu of flowers that his friends plant a tree in his honor.
