Steven Victor Magyar, age 90, of Leroy Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 12, 2016.

Steve was born March 23, 1926 in Fairport Harbor, the son of the late Miklos and Elizabeth (Czap) Magyar. He was a US Army veteran serving his country during World War II until he was wounded in Rhineland, Germany. He married the love of his life Betty Mae Tobias in Painesville, Ohio on October 4, 1952.

Steven was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Painesville where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus chapter. Before his retirement, Steven worked at Carlisle’s as the head of the furniture department. He belonged to the Fairport Harbor VFW, and also enjoyed golfing, woodworking, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty; daughters, Beth Ann (Tim) Stachiw of Leroy, Amy L. (Dave) Morgan of Tega Cay SC; Claudia Magyar of Madison, Stephanie (Lenny) Luscher of Wilmington, NC; son, Chris (Teri) Magyar of Leroy; sister Irene Chiappone of Painesville; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Nicholas, John, Rev. Joseph and Tony Magyar; sisters, Elizabeth, Anne, Helen, Marie and Teddy.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, June 17, 2016 at St. Mary’s Church, 242 N. State St., Painesville, Ohio. Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery in Leroy, Ohio.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 5-8 PM at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison, Ohio 44057.
