Virgie Ruth Grimm, aged 91, of Madison, Ohio and Summit, NJ, passed away September 1, 2021 at home in NJ. Born July 31, 1930 in Glen Daniel, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Harry Davis and Nola (Stewart) Davis. She married the love of her life, Benny Grimm, on February 27, 1956, after meeting him at Concord College, where she, the school nurse, had patched him up in the infirmary after a basketball injury.
Virgie graduated from the Raleigh General Hospital School of Nursing, in Beckley, WV, then went on to Concord College to earn her Bachelor’s in Education, and a Masters of Teaching degree at Edinboro University. She worked as a surgical and ER nurse at Geneva Hospital, and as a teacher of English in the Madison and Perry local school systems. Virgie’s lifelong passion was helping others, and it was impossible for her to go out in the community without greeting a former student or patient, all of whom she counted as friends. She found her greatest joy in helping others and creating beauty in her garden.
She is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Mike) Knowlton; granddaughter, Windley; and nieces, Linda (Gary) Pauley and Sherry Brown. She also leaves behind her nursing and shopping “partner in crime” Patsy Gehring; and last, but certainly not least, her canine companion, Archie. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Frank Davis and Mabel Brown.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 23rd, at 11 am, at Chapel United Methodist Church, 2019 Hubbard Road, Madison, Ohio, 44057, with Pastor Lenore Robinson. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions in Virgie’s name be made to the Madison Food Center, 1954 Hubbard Road, Madison, Ohio 44057, Madison Public Library, 6111 Middle Ridge Road, Madison, Ohio 44057, or Chapel United Methodist Church.
