GENEVA- Sylvia E. Shimandle, 78, of Geneva, passed away peacefully, Monday, April 18, 2016 at UH- Geneva Medical Center.
She was born August 1, 1937 in Harpersfield, Ohio, the daughter of the late Howard N. and E. Ione (Barrett) Sterrett. Sylvia graduated from Geneva High School Class of 1955 and had been a lifelong area resident. She married the love of her life Edward A. Shimandle, on November 7, 1974.
Sylvia worked for many years as a machinist at Harvey Hubbell. She and Ed also had a popular fruit farm where they grew grapes and apples, as well as raising many different animals. She was a talented cake decorator and made many wedding cakes for people over the years. Sylvia collected Unicorns and enjoyed painting, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Sylvia is survived by her children, Shellie (Eric) Jackett, and Richard Chester; daughter-in-law, Karen Gaskins; grandchildren, Greg (Gina) Chester, Jamie Chester, Shaena (Ron) Taylor, Kayla (Tracy, Jr.) Gallaher, Audra (Sean Kraynak) Butsko, and Kristyn (Dwayne) Vukelich; eight great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward in 2009; sister, Leslie Taylor; a brother in infancy; and her parents.
A Celebration of Sylvia’s Life will be held Friday, April 22, 2016 at 7 PM at The Behm Family Funeral Home. 175 S. Broadway, Geneva. Friends may call from 4 PM until the time of service at 7PM at the funeral home.

To the family of my sweet and dear friend Syliva. Our mothers grew up together and we have been friends from birth. We spent many hours together on the farm on 307 and in 4H together and through grade school and high school. I would stop and see her when I came into town and just say hi and see how she was. She dearly loved her family, husband and animals with all her heart. She will be missed very much. I have a couple of her feather painting witch I will always cherish.
